PORTABLE X-RAY EQUIPMENTS are designed to carry out an exposure with the operator holding the equipment with his hands and due to the impossibility of moving away at the regulatory distance, THE OPERATOR WILL BE EXPOSED TO A DOSE OF SCATTERED RADIATION ELEVEN TIMES HIGHER, IN THE BEST CASE. On the contrary, FIXED X-RAY EQUIPMENTS HAVE MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS THAT MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE ERRORS THAT RESULT IN UNWANTED RADIATION EXPOSURE.

Hand held X-Ray equipment must incorporate into its design physical means to protect the Operator from leakage radiation. Precautions may include lead lined gloves and lead apron.
